SAMHSA Seminar Update

You may recall that we gave this week’s "foot-in-mouth" award to SAMHSA Administrator Charles G. Curie. Mr. Curie insisted that a private group being contracted for a conference seminar on suicide change the name of the seminar so that it would not include the words, "Gay / Lesbian / Bisexual / Transgender.

I’m pleased to announce they have apparently "backed-off" this demand, and will now allow the program sponsors and creator’s to use whatever name they want. This only makes given the fact that I spoke with HHS Deputy Chief of Staff, Andrew Knapp, who’s only argument seemed to be that the title didn’t make any difference anyway. Feel free to read about the conversation here.

At least they finally came around.
