Crack In The Evangelical Wall

THE EVANGELICAL SPLIT WIDENS: Conservatives who have long taken the support of evangelical Christians for granted are beginning to pay the price. The Associated Press reports that Rev. Ted Haggard, an "Indiana farm boy and onetime Bible smuggler in communist eastern Europe" who has become "one of the most influential voices in evangelical Christianity" has parted ways with President Bush. Bucking the notion that evangelicals’ only concerns are over social issues like abortion and gay marriage, Rev. Haggard is becoming increasingly vocal over "concern about global climate change and other environmental issues, support for the Supreme Court decision protecting gays’ sexual privacy, and support for social justice."
