TV Guide Nostalgia

According to an article at the Buzz Machine, TV Guide has announced it will get bigger in size, and eliminate local listings in their magazine.

I can certainly understand the need for this move. First off, due to the on-screen and TiVO guides, people just don’t use TV Guide anymore. I can’t remember the last time I bought one. Also, listings are available on-line and the local newspaper. I think they did a remarkable job of trying to keep up, but now even the local edition for a particular city can be complex because there may be service by more than one cable company.

But, I’ll remember that little book as a piece of Americana. We always had it handy on the coffee table at home as I was growing up, and I remember going through those newsprint pages of the listings and planning an evening’s schedule.
