News for the Week of January 18, 2008

This is a wrap up of the minor and unusual stories from the news for the week ending Friday, January 18, 2008.

Trailer Hitch Testicles – 365gay.com
It probably won’t surprise anyone that knows anything about the Virginia Legislature to learn that, State Del. Lionel Spruill introduced a bill Tuesday to ban displaying replicas of human genitalia on vehicles, calling it a safety issue because it could distract other drivers. One has to wonder why seeing a set of testicles hanging from a trailer hitch would be so distracting to Mr. Spruill that he would pose a traffice hazard….hmmmm? Of course, one could hang a really large pair and say they are “bull balls.” If you happen to be driving a Dodge Ram, it would be perfectly legitimate. I guess they just can’t be “human.”

14 Year Old Girl Attacked by Police Dog – TBO
A fourteen year old girl, not being pursued by police, was hospitalized this morning after a Lakeland Police Officer, supposedly by accident, hit the remote door opener on his police car and released the police dog, which attacked the girl. It’ll all be a big story about it being an accident, and I’m sure it was, but carelessness of this type is not acceptable. When public servants, like this officer, are held personally accountable (take his retirement money and garnish his pay), then you’ll see them get a lot less careless. This is not the first time this has happened.

Man Mistakes Wife for Escaped Inmate and Shoots Her – TBO
Apparently 63 year old Ralph Contopoulo mistook his wife for a desperate escapee from the Citrus Park jail. He saw a bushy haired person out in his back yard by the pool (Desperate escapees are always looking for a nice swim you know), so he let loose a shot and caught his wife in the arm.

13 Year Old Hamburgler – TBO
A 13 year old girl had only a brief taste of freedom after attempting to rob a Burger King with a knife. She showed up in her pajamas shortly after being released from a juvenile assessment center, brandished her knife, and demanded a cheeseburger. That must have been some great assessment she received.
