Nevada Sen. John Ensign Is Protecting Marriage

Once again the Republican, we’re gonna save marriage, juggernaut hits an iceberg.

“Marriage is the cornerstone on which our society was founded. For those who say that the Constitution is so sacred that we cannot or should not adopt the Federal Marriage Amendment, I would simply point out that marriage, and the sanctity of that institution, predates the American Constitution and the founding of our nation. Marriage, as a social institution, predates every other institution on which ordered society in America has relied.”

These are Sen. Ensign’s words from the floor of the U.S. Senate touting the Constitutional Amendment to save marriage.

Unfortunately, Sen. Ensign missed some votes this week, including an important one for Nevada. He had to fly home to hold the usual Republican press conference to disclose his nine month affair with a campaign worker back in 2007-2008. Oh yeah, this is one of the Senators who voted against Bill Clinton in the impeachment trial. You know, because a blow job is immoral, but a month’s long affair is OK.

I accept that nobody’s perfect, and that’s why I don’t go around inserting myself into the personal lives of everyone else. I wish the Republican’s would take literally their “small government” mantra, and get the hell out of everyone else’s bedrooms…Sounds like their own bedrooms are busy enough.

Update: It also turns out that Ensign demanded Larry Craig resign after Craig’s little airport restroom adventure. Ensign has yet to announce his own resignation.
