Salvaging A Small Part of A Small Town Downtown »

I’m from a small town, Kings Mountain, North Carolina, just across the South Carolina state line. It’s right off Interstate 85. Recently my Mom sent me a clipping from the local paper. The main article on clipped page was about an effort to restore the downtown local theater. This started me thinking back to the downtown where I grew up, and considering how it’s changed.

2008 Hurricane Season Predictions »

According to an article on the Scientific American website, Colorado State University and the National Weather Service are in pretty close agreement on their predictions for this year’s hurricane season. The season starts this Sunday and ends on November 30. They are calling for a very active season again this year.

Gay Marriage in California »

Certainly there is a reason to celebrate the ruling by the California Supreme Court on Gay Marriage. Apparently four of the seven justices recognized that gender and sexual orientation, just like race, can not be grounds to deny rights to individuals.

Visit to Minneapolis »

I’ve been in Minneapolis since Wednesday afternoon. I flew in to for a work related conference, and gave one of the presentations. I got great reviews from the people that attended the sessions, all saying it was better than the other “snoozers” they attended yesterday afternoon.

Amendment 2 Supporters Caught in a Lie »

A while back John Stemberger, leader of the Anti-Gay Amendment 2 group here in Florida, was quoted in an Orlando Sentinal article discussing those opposed to Amendment 2 saying, “We’re going to confront deception and we’re going to expose them wherever they are.” Strong words, until one has to eat them.
