Sen. Susan Collins – Douche Bag of the Day

Senator Collins (R-Maine) is the recipient of today’s Douche Bag of the day award. You might think it is because of her vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court, but I think this might be more “deplorable” and is a classic Republican move. Now she’s turned around and got a quid-pro-quo exactly for voting to confirm Kavanaugh. Judicial Crisis Network, the “dark money” group that spent millions promoting Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation effort, announced a new “six-figure TV and digital ad campaign” Tuesday in support of Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME), who voted for Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

Senator McCain – Hardly the Lion

This is tough to write, as I’m struggling a bit with my feelings concerning Senator John McCain. McCain is being lionized by the media and political pundit class. While I respect his service and many of his accomplishments, he was hardly the maverick he fancied himself, and leaves a mixed political legacy, and ironically, much of the blame for the ascendency of Donald Trump.

Rep Diane Black Says Pornography Causes School Shootings

Diane, for becoming yet another of the NRA stooges and blaming gun violence in schools on anything and everything but guns, we’re going to let you have a Douche-bag of the day award. It’s available on the shelf when you walk into the grocery store. You’ll have to reach up to get it, but it’s right there.

U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher – Douche Bag of the Day

U.S. Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) told a group of Realtors it should be OK for homeowners to refuse to sell their property to gays and lesbians. “Every homeowner should be able to make a decision not to sell their home to someone (if) they don’t agree with their lifestyle,” Rohrabacher told an Orange County Association of Realtor’s delegation at a May 16 meeting.

The Swiss Gun Control Argument

The Swiss argument about gun control gets bandied about with some regularity. There’s this claim that “The Swiss require everyone to have a gun,” or “The Swiss government issues everyone a gun.” Except, no they don’t. And as a matter of fact, when you look into gun violence statistics, Switzerland supports the position: “the more guns, the more gun violence.”

A Good Guy With a Gun Stopped a Shooting?

The big news yesterday was yet another possible school shooting. This time a 17-year-old brought a Glock handgun to Great Mills High school in Maryland. Fortunately, he only wounded two people. The ammosexuals have been fetishizing the incident because supposedly a “good guy with a gun” stopped a shooting. Except, that is not what happened.

That Law Wouldn’t Have Stopped….Another More Guns Argument

The NRA has trained well their minions. One of the most common arguments after every mass shooting is, well a waiting period wouldn’t have stopped; an age restriction wouldn’t have helped in this situation; or a determined person will get a gun. No one regulation will stop all shootings (with the clear inference that means there should be no regulations).

Rep. Tim Murphy – Douche-Bag of The Day

If Republicans have any real principles, it is hypocrisy. They never seem to have any problem accepting money to advance whatever culture war issue or policy and imposing it on everyone else, while doing just the opposite in their personal lives. It seems that Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA), couldn’t avoid a little adultery, and some violation of the “sanctity of the unborn child.”

H-1B Visas – The Joke’s On Us

Recently, I caught a story of an IT firm in Iowa that posted an advertisement for an H1-B only person. The ad by American Technology Consulting, posted to the recruiting website ZipRecruiter, sought a java developer to work in San Diego. Initially, it stated “H1B Only,” but has now been changed. This seems to bring home something I’ve seen frequently, and that is a perceived abuse of the H1-B program. I say perceived, because the law has changed so much people who passed it in 1952 wouldn’t recognize it.

Is The Left To Blame for Today’s Shootings?

I think the shooter, combined with the ready availability of guns, is to blame for today’s shooting. Of course, in their usual fashion, Republicans rush to blame anyone but themselves. Gabbie Giffords, herself a victim of an assassination attempt made a post today expressing her sorrow and support. The ammo-sexuals didn’t take kindly to her kindness. Rand Paul forgot to delete his tweet explaining the Second Amendment was there for people to shoot government officials, and a Georgia Congressman would have taken care of it himself if he’d only been allowed to have a gun.

Ducks and Congressmen – How They Differ

Today, I was contemplating the story of the shooting at the Congressional Baseball practice session (and later in the day after another workplace shooting at a UPS facility in San Francisco), and something occurred to me about our priorities. Reports from the scene of the Congressional Baseball practice say something like 50 shots were fired, meaning the gunman had a relatively high capacity magazine in what has been described as an AR-15 semi-automatic weapon.
