Not Christmas Without Some Anti-Gay Hate

The anti-gay rights group, One Million Moms (which only claims a membership of 50,000, but has never bested about 15,000 signatures on any of their frequent petitions), his ho-ho-hoping mad over this completely offensive JCPenney ad, you know, because Ellen Degeneres is in it.

God’s gentle loving people had this to say about the ad:

JCP has made their choice to offend a huge majority of their customers again. Christians must now vote with their wallets. We have contacted JC Penney’s several times in the past with our concerns, and they will not listen. They have decided to ignore our complaints so we will avoid them at all costs.

I’d point out that this is the same group which has a Facebook friend/commenter who wrote, concerning a lesbian character on the “Person of Interest” TV Show, “The lesbian character should have been shot on sight, immediately, once her evil, abomination ways were discovered, right?”

Sometimes There’s Hope

I am constantly reading and hearing the anti-gay Christianists (the Krazy Kristian Kooks as I like to call them) talking about how the world will end if gay people are given equal rights, and their rights to bully are taken away. Just in the past couple of days, on Janet Medferds talk show she hosted professional gay hater and homophobe (and truly most likely a big queen himself) Peter LaBarbera. After crapping on the TV show “The New Normal” to fill air time, they go off on homosexuals in general with the following exchange:

Janet Mefferd: What it comes down to Peter is when you don’t have an objective moral standard in a society you can’t long stand. I’m watching this stuff unfold and I’m not a Jeremiah type generally, I tend to be pretty cheerful, but I look at this and think, I don’t think a country can recover from this, I really don’t.

Peter LaBarbera: I tend to be a realist too which is why I don’t go around saying, we’re all going to come out of this OK, who knows? If there’s a revival I think there’s hope for us. I think without a revival I kind of agree with you, I think we’re seeing all the signs of a society in steep moral decline. Even this presidential race we’re faced between one candidate who has totally given over to the homosexual agenda, then the Republican candidate, Mitt Romney, has actually come out for homosexuality in the Boy Scouts. It almost seems like our candidates themselves are sort of a judgment on this country.

I’m disturbed that I find myself in agreement with Peter on this one. If we don’t have some type of revival in this country, where we get back to believing that everyone should be treated equal under the law, and that we’re not a theocracy, and that bullying and hate are just wrong, then I don’t know if we’ll survive…so Peter, yes, I hope we have a revival, the kind led by Quality Auto Paint and Body in Roanoke, Virginia. (Take a Lesson Petey.)

In the past couple of weeks, Ellen DeGeneres had John McCain on her show, and they discussed same-sex marriage. I’ve come realize that Ellen is a very smart person, capable of putting forth a very rational argument in a very concise way.

The good folks at Box Turtle Bulletin have made the transcript available here.

While I’m sure the krazy kristian kooks are reveling in the golden egg handed them by the California Supreme Court (“see, it’s just a matter of time before these ‘activists’ judges makes us let the queers here in Florida get married, and then all the heterosexual marriages will be destroyed”), here’s a little tidbit for them to get worried about.

For some years Gallup has polled Americans about what is moral. Since 2001 homosexuality has been on the list, and it seems that in this year’s poll in May things evened out. 48% of Americans believe homosexuality is immoral, but the same percentage say it’s not.

Gallop Poll ResultsUnfortunately, this means that the Republicans have lost the threat of communism, and now are losing the threat of faggots as a tool for their political gain. I think that’s why they’ve been trying make immigrants the next target of hate, but that isn’t catching on so well.

Rest assured though, they will milk the grave threats of the homosexual agenda for all they can.

All these religious right wingnuts think they absolve themselves of any responsibility for the violence perpetrated against gay people when they say, “Oh we don’t hate gays, we just hate the sin.” Bullshit. This is what you have wrought, and you will stand in judgment for it. These wingnuts love to invoke the Old Testament wrath of God when it comes to homosexuality. I’d remind them the prophets of the Old Testament were usually warning of God’s wrath in the context of how corrupt the religious leaders’ of that time had become.

Micah summed it well: “He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
