I haven’t been awarding these much lately, well, because with the Trump Administration, there would be just too many ties each day. But I thought that Julie Gunlock, senior fellow at the Independent Women’s Forum, deserved special recognition for some things she said on a recent edition of Fox and Friends.
Julie is upset that, apparently, behind the backs of parents as part of some great conspiracy, schools are (gasp) feeding children and teaching science. And by gawd, it has to stop.
“More and more now these schools, elementary schools are taking on and supplanting parents,” Gunlock said. “They get dropped off at 6:30 in the morning, they get three meals a day. There is after-care. There is even health care services at some schools. So, really schools have tried more and more to take on the role of parenting.”
Yes, the schools are providing these things, and why? Well, first off, they are voluntary, so parents must think they are a good thing, but this is still just another example of a favorite Republican pastime, “poor shaming.” There was a time in America when a family could live a comfortable life on a single income, leaving one parent at home for child-rearing. Thanks to Republicans and their failed trickle-down economics theory, that’s just not possible. Both parents need to work, and even that is still a struggle. So schools have had to step up and try to help parents and children, but of course, let’s make people feel bad for using these services.
And just as an aside, she’s also got her knickers all in a wad over the fact that these liberal schools are teaching things of devil like “climate change.”
As Allen Clifton over at Forward Progressives put it:
As for her assertion that “political topics” are now being pushed in school, such as climate change, she’s out of her mind. We shouldn’t dumb-down our education system just because some people want to deny facts, reality, science, and history. When the majority of the world’s scientists believe in human-made climate change, that means it damn sure needs to be taught in school. Just because there are people like her who choose to be ignorant doesn’t mean the facts become a “matter of opinion.”
Climate change is real — end of story.
This woman is essentially arguing that teaching factual science, feeding children, and providing after school care is tantamount to liberal brainwashing.
I couldn’t have said it better myself Allen. The stupid just burns.
