pulse-orlandoWow, what disturbing news I woke to Sunday morning. We’ve been there in the past, and we’ve been to the Plaza Live where Christina Grimmie was killed, as the Orlando Gay Men’s Chorus performs there. So far, we’re not aware of any friends or acquaintances who were involved, but it is a tight enough community, I’m sure we at least have friends of friends who are.

This will all be kind of a random collection of my thoughts on this, so be understanding if I’m more incoherent than usual.

First, let’s clear up something about the role the shooter’s religion played, and whether this was an Isl?mic terrorist act, or as one “friend” on Facebook called it, Jihad. According to FBI Director, James Comey, the shooter came to their attention a few years ago when some folks at the Court House where he was working security, contacted the FBI after he made claims about being part of Al-Qaeda. They determined he was just making the claims in anger, and as something a threat. Kind of like kids who claim to be in a gang, when they aren’t.

Of course, we all know now about his call to 911 claiming loyalty to the leader of ISIL, and mentioning the Boston Bombers. The Boston Bombers claimed to affiliated with Al-Qaeda. So, why does this matter? Well ISIL and Al-Qaeda are mortal enemies. He basically pledged allegiance to two diametrically opposed groups, Shi’a Hezbollah and Sunni ISIS. I think this shows the guy was either stupid, or too consumed by his rage to consider what he was saying, he just wanted to seem like a big guy on a big mission. I believe this takes all wind out of the sales of those trying to make this some sort of international terrorist event. It was not. Continue reading »

4-LiesThere’s much I can say about the massacre in Orlando, and will write more about that after some reflection, but this one topic was too clear and obvious to need any reflection. It is time to end the NRA claim about how a “good-guy-with-a-gun” will rush in and save the day, if only there’s one around.

I don’t believe a single event should set a precedent or make a point, so I’ll start with another example. A Facebook “friend” posted an article about one of these always-armed ammosexuals, who was claimed in the article to be a hero. Apparently around May 30, 2016, in a Houston Mall, a 25-year-old Army veteran allegedly suffering from PTSD opened fire. Concealed carry permit holder Byron Wilson drew his handgun and engaged the shooter. The article she posted claimed Wilson was a hero because he ran towards the shooting and not away.

Wilson was shot three times, along with seven other people. It took the local SWAT team to take down the shooter. It doesn’t appear Wilson ever even hit the guy. Continue reading »

Alan Grayson’s New Congressional Ad

Unfortunately Alan Grayson is not my representative in Congress, but I sure wish he was. I don’t have anything against Cathy Kastor, my current representative, except that she’s the typical milquetoast Democrat. Alan Grayson doesn’t mind speaking truth to power, and he calls out the talibangelist views of his tea bagger opponent in this ad. And this guy has tried to pass some of his extreme religious views into law in Tallahassee. Democrats should take note, this is how the game has to be played for now.

In fact, maybe Alan Grayson should become head of the Democratic Party.

Verizon Employees Picket Because Their Customer Service is so Bad
Well, here’s an interesting twist. It seems that call center employees are so tired of bad customer service from the field that they are picketing their own call center. Apparently all their managers are interested in is having them sell additional products/services instead of handling problems (“would you like fries with that sir?”) Also, they’ve taken all the copper wire phone techs and moved them to FIOS, so they can’t get a phone working again within the usual 24 hours. Good for the employees. (Read More …)

Diaper Clad Monkey Captured in Orlando – AP
A monkey apparently escaped from his home through a window, and was captured by animal control later in the day. He was lured into a cage with a bananna. (Read More …)

Man Arrested for Hitting Police Horse in the Butt
Carl Coward managed to get his picture on the Tampa Tribune site (his mugshot that is), after he was arrested early Sunday morning in Ybor City. The Police were beginning to clear the streets as the clubs were closing, and apparently Carl thought it would be a great idea to punch one of the Police Horses in the butt. Besides the possibility of getting arrested, a horse is not on the list of animals it’s smart to antagonize. (Read More …)

Hillsborough Election Supervisor Has Tax Problem
For the fourth year in a row, Hillsborough County Elections Supervisor Buddy Johnson is late paying county property taxes. Johnson missed an April 1 deadline to pay $1,682 in 2007 taxes he owes on 20 acres and a small house on Thonotosassa Road near Plant City. He owns the property through a limited liability corporation he created, Fort Bully LLC, but still tried to get a homestead exemption. (Read More…)
