We Gather Together

I didn’t make it home to North Carolina this year for Thanksgiving, so I am feeling a little sad as I think about not “gathering together” with the family. However, this is still a beautiful hymn, and I can just imagine how it would sound on a crisp Thanksgiving morning ringing out from the carillon.  This 16th century Dutch melody is played by David Christensen on the carillon at the University of California, Riverside. I hope you have an outstanding Thanksgiving, and my wish is that you have even more to be thankful for next year.

Amazing Bike Tricks

Here’s a video of some kids doing some amazing bicycle tricks. I was never able to ride my bike like, and I think I’m glad I didn’t try to learn. Along with the amazing tricks, there are some pretty rough looking falls. (Thanks to Americablog)

I remember getting out of school early once and not really knowing why. I thought it was just raining lightly, but it turns out it was freezing rain, and there was a light layer of ice over our gravel road. I went blasting down the road on my bike, hit the brakes, and took a nice long slide. The ice was thick enough to have covered all the gravel.

My niece loves to play the Bubble Breaker game on my phone. She can be down the hall at her grandmothers house, and as soon as she hears the little start up noise, she comes running going…”bubbles!” Being the fun uncle, I’ve bought her several bottles of the old fashioned bubble things, and she loves to run around popping them all. She even has to say, “pop…pop…pop,” as she pokes them. (I think they don’t really pop unless she makes the sound.)

I also remember how cool I thought it was when adults could make smoke rings with their pipe or cigarette smoke.

Now comes this video from Sea World where some of the dolphins, on their own, have learned to make a bubble ring with their blow holes, and then play with the ring underwater. And the others learned it from the ones that started it. You have to watch this, as it’s nearly impossible to describe how cool it is.

Ellen DeGeneres Remembers Murdered Gay Teen

All these religious right wingnuts think they absolve themselves of any responsibility for the violence perpetrated against gay people when they say, “Oh we don’t hate gays, we just hate the sin.” Bullshit. This is what you have wrought, and you will stand in judgment for it. These wingnuts love to invoke the Old Testament wrath of God when it comes to homosexuality. I’d remind them the prophets of the Old Testament were usually warning of God’s wrath in the context of how corrupt the religious leaders’ of that time had become.

Micah summed it well: “He hath showed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”

The few time’s I’ve watched Boston Legal, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it, but for some reason it’s never made my “must watch” list. After seeing this, I think I have to set the Tivo to record it. What a great statement.

This entry is part 4 of 4 in the series Causes of The Gay

You heard me right. A while back, Steven Colbert did an interview with Robert Knight of Concerned Women for America (still haven’t quite figured that one out), and according to Knight, a Minute Made orange juice commercial featuring Popeye and Bluto shows them turning gay after drinking orange juice.

The Energizer Bunny of Corruption

They just keep going and going and going.

It seems that Rep. Kurt Weldon, (R-PA) is now under investigation for using his power to help his daughter get contracts and favorable consideration for her lobbying practice. The FBI today raided her home. Of course, being a member of the party of personal responsibility, Weldon blames it all on a liberal conspiracy and partisan politics.

Uh, just nevermind that the FBI is part of the Justice Department…which, at last check, was run by Bush appointee and staunch Republican Conservative, Alberto Gonzales. Go figure. Watch it on YouTube.
