Now here’s a retirement plan for today’s economic environment that I can get behind.
Sometimes I wonder whether the world is being run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it. ~~Mark Twain

Here’s the wrap up for some of the interesting stories for the week ending Friday, March 21, 2008. We’ve got a fight featuring beer and a hoe, and other fights using other interesting weapons. Starbucks is in the news, and we have a Mom getting her kid to pick her up some LSD at school, and Polk County deputies are smuggling pot into the jail.

Well, it’s that time of year in Florida when you can anything you can imagine fried. Yep, it’s time for the State Fair.
We took the nephews Saturday. It has gotten out of control expensive I think if you take kids who want to ride rides. I realize there are certain days when one can get [...]

I am at the airport waiting on my 2:15 flight to Philadelphia. I’ll be there for a few days for some training. While it’s always good to get training, Philadelphia in January is not a great idea. I hope to keep up blogging in the evenings.

I had planned on a slow work week leading up to the holiday, and had attempted to be somewhat ahead of the game when it came to preparing for the holidays, but it didn’t work out that way. For that reason, I never got around to really writing anything about the holiday, but I could not let pass without comment this whole “war on Christmas bullshit” that seems to crank up every year. An example is a commentary on CNN by some guy named Roland Martin. Obviously, he perceives this concerted attack on Christmas by…well, he’s never clear about that other than categorizing the enemies of Christmas as “politically correct idiots”.

Winter may be making a brief appearance in Tampa next week. It’s 77 degrees as I write this on Friday afternoon, but according to a report in the Tribune, by next Thursday, we could have temperatures close to freezing, with a wind chill of near 25.

We are winding down towards the end of the year, but instead of getting slower, we just got really busy for this week at work. I’ll still do my best to get some stuff posted here for you. We’ve got sex stings, porn and horse rustling.

I’ve been in Reston, VA since Tuesday. I flew up for a series of work related meetings at my company’s headquarters. Now I’m trying to get home. Due to some slightly bad weather, things are running about ninety minutes behind (so far). I’m hoping it doesn’t get any worse.

I know it’s a bit late, but I thought I’d write an update from our Thanksgiving trip to North Carolina.

Lots of weirdness this week with a guy’s girlfriend biting off his tongue, and a couple of cops getting run over by another police car during a chase. And probably the big story was a roadside cleanup crew finding 60 lbs. of pot on the side of I-4.

This is a summary of the news items that didn’t merit a full post, but were worth a comment due either to their weidness or importance. These all happened during Thanksgiving week of 2007. We’ve got people trying to remove tire lug nuts with shot guns, and more Episcopalian shennanigans.

Well, by now most of you have heard the story of the fake FEMA press conference. Apparently, a couple of weeks ago during the height of the California wildfires, Deputy Secretary, Vice Adm. Harvey E. Johnson, was asked questions by other FEMA employees posing as reporters. Real reporters were notified of the conference only 15 minutes before it started, and were only allowed to listen via a listen-only conference line.
