The Story Behind Some Signs
Have you ever seen a sign or notice and wondered about the story behind the sign? Some of them could be pretty interesting. I recall wandering around in a new Motor Home many years ago and there was a notice posted on the sign visor. It was alluding to the use of the Cruise Control and basically said, “The Cruise Control is for maintaining speed only. The Driver should remain seated and in control of the vehicle.” You have to wonder, what idiot was going down the highway, set the cruise control and decided to get up and go to the bathroom or get a cup of coffee.
I had a similar experience last night at a Chinese buffet restaurant. Over Lay’s shoulder, I noticed a hand-written sign which said:
We are not responsible for your personal belongings….
OK, I can get on board with that and assumed someone’s purse or some other item left at the table while they’re at the buffet was lost or stolen. If that were all the sign said, that’s where my thoughts would have stopped. But nooooo…the sign went on with some much more specific information:
…especially your “retainer”, “dentures” etc.
Thank you for your cooperation
(Put them in your bag or purse)
This set my mind wondering. First, who takes out their retrainer or dentures at the table? Next, who left them laying there when they went to get more food? And likely then, they were either stolen (who would do that?), or a wait-person bused the table, and included someone’s dentures in what they hauled away. Just makes you wonder.
