Update on Hurricane Dennis
The National Weather Service released their 11am advisory. The projected path has been shifted more to the east, as the storm is moving more northwest than west northwest. This seems to indicate that the high pressure is not as strong as expected. The NWS discussion indicates the storm continues to strengthen and organize, and has a very large wind field, particularly on the northeast quadrant.
They are projecting Dennis to become a major hurricane within 24 hours, and have, due to this new guidance the NWS has issued a hurricane watch for extreme south Florida. The only hindrance this storm will have to continued strengthening is its interaction with Cuba. There is little wind shear and the water it will be passing over is very warm.
Well, this was looking like little more than a rainmaker for us, but now we’re going to have to pay it more attention.
