2020 Votes – Florida Congressional District 14
This is between Democratic incumbent Kathy Castor and Republican Christine Quinn.
I am not a huge fan of Kathy Castor. Not that I have opposed much of what she pushes, just that she doesn’t seem to push much, nor very hard. She’s not as progressive as I’d like and waits to see which way the wind is blowing before making a move. Also, once twice I’ve requested assistance from her office and got nothing. With all that said, she is still a better choice and more reliable vote than her Republican opponent who trends very far to the crazy-assed Trump wing of the party.
Florida Politics reports that “Before making the decision (to run), Quinn, 56, traveled to Washington, where she attended some briefings with the Heritage Foundation and the Conservative Political Action Committee.” So, right there we’ve got a person under the spell of those two organizations. That is enough to disqualify her from my vote. She has no grasp of major issues. Time and again, in interviews, she demurs and claims to not know much on the topics. “When asked about immigration, Quinn says she’s not equipped to give a short, succinct answer. But when asked if she supports the wall Donald Trump has proposed along the U.S. Southern border, she backs that idea with enthusiasm, adding her fear is that the undocumented could be bringing over diseases that could compromise our health system.”
She is into loony conspiracy theories also. She does not believe we never found weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Again, from the Florida Politics interview, “We didn’t get in fast enough,” she says regarding the invasion and the search for WMD, which began in March 2003. “Could they have moved them? We’re they really not there? How do we know? Maybe they really were there. I have a hard time believing that they weren’t there. I think that they were there, I think that we don’t get the full reports.”
If all that wasn’t enough to dissuade me, she’s not just a Trump supporter, but a worshipper. “That man IS the American dream. He was able to go to college. He does have military experience from being in a military school. He started a business — good for him.” Well, no he’s not the American dream…most Americans would prefer to not be a sociopath. He was able to go to college because his father was rich. No Christine, sweetie, going to a military school does not give one “military experience. He started a bunch of businesses, and ALL of them have failed.
It should be obvious my vote is for Rep. Castor.
