This Is How It Starts – The Trump Campaign

donald-trump-july-10-2015I’ve written pretty extensively about Cruz’s beliefs and his campaign. He remains my biggest fear as President because of his deep-seated religious beliefs, but Trump is already making the U.S. a terrible place. His campaign has given permission to the racists and xenophobes in this country to take off the masks of civility, and revel in their hate. And so far, candidate Trump has done nothing to dissuade them.

This is how it starts, we know how it ends. History has taught us, but as too often the case, we have decided to forego the lessons of history. Oh yes, a bare few Republican party leaders are timidly calling Trump out, but Rubio and Cruz are aiding and abetting by trying to out Trump Trump.

Monday, Black students, attending a Trump rally at Valdosta State University in Georgia were removed before Trump even spoke by the Secret Service at the request of Trump. They’d said and done nothing other than being in attendance, and were even sitting near the back. They were students at the school, and while other students (white ones) were allowed to attend, they were told it was a “private” event.

Earlier that day, the Secret Service had thrown a choke-hold on a credentialed news photographer as he was trying to take a picture as a Black-Lives-Matter protester was being removed from a Trump event. Frankly, it’s really time the Secret Service stopped acting as thug enforcers for the thug Trump. I don’t know why this is being allowed.

This is even spilling over into high schools. Last week, at a boys basketball game in Des Moines, Iowa, students from Dallas Center-Grimes High, which has a largely white population started chanting, “Trump, Trump, Trump, after being beaten by Perry High School, which has a more diverse student population.  A student from Perry,  Kevin Lopez, noted in a letter to the Perry Chief newspaper that the chant had been shouted at the team three other times this season.

And now this week, The Star Telegram is reporting on another incident that took place when two Catholic Schools (yes, parochial schools) played. At this one, students from Andrean High School in Merrillville shouted at students from Bishop Noll Institute, a heavily Hispanic school in nearby Hammond, on Friday evening.

While a statement was issued by the Bishop’s office for Northern Indiana, I want to know why Andrean team is not being being forced to forfeit their remaining games, and the students involved suspended…although, from the pictures, it pretty much looks like that would be the entire student body. At the very least, there needs to be a mandatory assembly of students AND their parents in which a professional diversity trainer is brought in.

We know Trump has been endorsed by KKK Grand Dragon David Duke and the KKK, but has so far refused to renounce the endorsement. The guy is clearly cultivating the hate, but the timid response from the Republican Party leaders is a sure sign they don’t want to risk alienating what is now a significant bloc of their party. This is a monster they helped create, and they need to own, right along with, as Jon Stewart once referred to him, “Fuckface von Clownstick.”

We’ve seen some when counter protesters were stabbed with flag poles at a KKK rally. As I said, history teaches us how this will end.
