Senator David Perdue–Douche of the Day

Well, for more on God’s gentle loving people, we turn today to a religious conference held last week in Georgia. Republican Senator from Georgie, David Perdue, discussed praying in imprecatory prayer against the President.

According to a CNN report, Perdue said the group needed to pray that Obama’s days would be short.

“You know, I think we are called to pray. We are called to pray for our country, for our leaders, and yes, even our president,” Perdue said at the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s Road to the Majority Conference.

“You know, in his role as president, I think we should pray for Barack Obama. But I think we need to be very specific about how we pray,” he continued. “We should pray like Psalms 109:8 says. It says, ‘Let his days be few, and let another have his office.'”

Of course, he didn’t continue with the next verse, which says, “”Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.”

Naturally, his Press Secretary tried to cover for him. Carolina Vanick (what a name), said this:

“Senator Perdue said we are called to pray for our country, for our leaders, and for our president. He in no way wishes harm towards our president and everyone in the room understood that. However, we should add the media to our prayer list because they are pushing a narrative to create controversy and this is exactly what the American people are tired of.”

Well, Carolina can try to put lipstick on that pig, but do just a google search for imprecatory prayer, and you’ll get a list of the Psalms that are considered imprecatory prayers right on Biblegateway.com, and Psalms 109 is right there in the list. I can see some religious hack like Brian Fischer, Tony Perkins, or Franklin Graham saying things like this (in fact, I think they have), but a sitting U.S. Senator ought to be above that kind of crap.

But since Senator Perdue thinks this is appropriate, he gets our Douche of the Day award.

I have to disagree wljc, I think imprecatory prayers for anyone are inappropriate, and deserve being named a douche bag for it.
