Rep. Tim Murphy – Douche-Bag of The Day
If Republicans have any real principles, it is hypocrisy. They never seem to have any problem accepting money to advance whatever culture war issue or policy and imposing it on everyone else, while doing just the opposite in their personal lives. It seems that Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA), couldn’t avoid a little adultery, and some violation of the “sanctity of the unborn child.”
It seems the Pittsburg Gazette got hold of a document dump of texts and office documents from the Representative’s office. It seems Shannon Edwards, a forensic psychologist in Pittsburgh with whom the congressman admitted last month to having a relationship, texted him upset about some statements his office released on abortion. She wrote, “And you have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options…”
Murphy responded. “I get what you say about my March for life messages. I’ve never written them. Staff does them. I read them and winced. I told staff don’t write any more. I will.”
And, as it turns out, not only is the Congressman a philanderer with no hesitation about using abortion when it benefits him, is also just mostly an asshole. The Gazette also reported:
Another — a six-page memo to Mr. Murphy purportedly written by his chief of staff, Susan Mosychuk — described a hostile workplace in which Mr. Murphy repeatedly denigrated employees, threatened them and created a state of “terror.”
The June 8 memo, titled “Office Conduct and Behavior: Harassment/Legal Compliance,” says that there had been an “ongoing and ever more pronounced pattern of sustained inappropriate behavior” from the congressman.
It should be noted, Murphy is praised by the Family Research Council, for his stance on abortion and family values, generally. He also has been endorsed by LifePAC, which opposes abortion rights, and (you won’t be surprised to learn) is a member of the House Pro-Life Caucus, bragged about often by his office.
To paraphrase what I said in Pat Robertson’s previous award citation, I guess every village has to have it’s idiot, and it seems Pittsburgh is stuck with Murphy. He’s a “family values” Republican, so his philandering and hypocracy are no real surprise, but the troubling part of it all is that Republican voters can’t see through these facades, and never hold these guys accountable for the cheating and lying ways.
