2005 The New Year

Here it is past the middle of January, and I’m just now getting to writing about the new year. I have certainly been a bit lax lately in posting, but am ready to catch back up.

We spent New Year’s eve with friends. There was a small party at Jeff and Mike’s, then went to a local bar to ring in the new year. It was a pleasant enough weekend.

So what’s this year going to be all about. Most certainly this is going to be a year of change for me. It is?defintely time for me to move on in my career. It was made clear to me by our new senior V.P. that the company I work for is getting out of the content management business, and he went on to say, "And John and Jim, you realize that impacts you the most." A brick wall doesn’t have to fall on me to get that message, so an earnest job search starts this week.

I made all the usual resolutions you might expect. I want to be more organized. So far, I’m doing pretty good with this one. I want to lose weight. I have lost?a few pounds, but I’m not losing at the pace I’d like.

Obviously the new year wasn’t off to the best of starts. Just days before had been the massive tsunami, and of course we still have the war in Iraq. Its clear that’s not ending anytime soon,and is going to get worse before it gets better. Even Colin Powell has told W we’re losing. And now W wants to dismantle social security.

Hopefully, the economy won’t tank too bad this year, and I’ll find?a new job that’s better than what I have now.

The past year saw a stolen election here in the U.S., and the President’s politics of hatred as he attempted to pass a Constitutional Amendment to institutionalize discrimination against gay people. On a personal level, not a lot changed.
