Sometimes I just stumble across fun little facts and/or tidbits. When that happens, they will wind up duly noted in this category.
The original title, Esquire, comes from the Middle Ages — an esquire was the rank above a gentleman, and below a knight. The word derives from the Latin scutum (shield), and Middle English esquier (shield bearer). It was also generally applied to upstanding members of society: judges, sheriffs, lawyers, professors.

It seems a common refrain, or assumption, that Democrats do not have an overall theme or narrative, and I will certainly agree that the party as a whole does a rather bad job of articulating the message. But it lodged in my brain, and after a half hour of thought I realized that I, at least, know what I stand for. And it’s not complicated.
Read moreFor some reason, starting this Spring, we had an extended family of some sort of tree frog move into the backyard. I’m assuming they’re tree frogs because they climb, and hang out in higher places during the day. At night, they come out to swim in the pool, lay their eggs, and boy do they make some serious noise. Its enough to sometimes wake you up and when asleep, and I’ve had to turn up the TV to cover their noise.
