Resuming Rants
There was a brief restaurant review posted earlier this year. The last post before that was a movie review (The Whale). A lot has transpired in my world over the past few months, and I think I am ready to get back to trying to post more or less regularly.
The highlight reel looks a bit like this:
I switched churches since my previous church disaffiliated this past December. I’m now a Hyde Park United Methodist Church member here in Tampa. I probably have switched sooner, but I really kept holding out, hoping they’d just move the pastor, Bruce Toms.
I also served as an at-large Delegate to the Florida Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. That was an exciting and enlightening experience that gave me a real lift.
You may have noticed that Florida has gone to hell in a handbasket under Ron DeSantis and the Republican Legislature. As a result, I’ve had a meeting with my State House Representative and the staff of my State Senator (he’s too much of a coward to meet directly with folks who oppose his views). I’ll write about those meetings in the next week or so.
On a more positive note, I somehow got on the invite list for a weekly breakfast event here in Tampa known as Cafe Con Tampa. It’s a group that gets together at the Portico each Friday morning and has an interesting speaker followed by lots of discussion. These are really smart folks. Many are movers and shakers in the community, including judges, politicians, and activists. It’s an impressive crowd, and I’ve enjoyed the topics. I got my friend Judge Perry Little to go with me most Fridays.
I’ll be heading to North Carolina on Friday for a quick visit with Mom and to attend the wedding of an old friend from Greensboro on Saturday. I’ll have to drive back on Monday or very early Tuesday morning.
We weathered Hurricane Idalia OK here in Tampa. I’m thankful for that, but thinking of the folks in the panhandle where it was much worse.
Those would be the highlights. I’ve got a few movie reviews to catch up on and lots of individual stories to write about concerning local politics and the School Board here in Hillsborough County.
