The Snowbillies Reprise

I was going to write about Ted Cruz, but lo’ and behold, the Palin family reappeared. Sarah Palin popped up and tossed up one of the biggest bowls of word salad ever in support of Donald Trump. This coming on the heels of her daughter being sued for child support and shared custody or a second out-of-wedlock child, and her son’s arrest on a range of charges related to firearms and domestic abuse. And, no surprise here, she blames almost all of that on Obama.

So let’s talk about this endorsement. Look closely at the picture below, and from the expression on Trump’s face, you have to think he’s going, “what the fuck have I done.” I’m sure the craziness of her speech was a bit over the top even for the Donald, not to mention, I suspect he felt like she was trying to upstage him. It’s hard to fit two egos the size of theirs into one building.

Now, I know the Palin kids should be left alone, and not snickered at. I’d be all for that were the Palin family not constantly making public spectacles of themselves, and always claim the high ground of “family values.” About a year ago, the entire family was reported to have gotten involved in a big drunken brawl at a party in Anchorage.

Then we have Bristol getting pregnant out-of-wedlock the first time, and proceeding to go on an abstinence tour. Lot’s of people made fun of that, but it made some sense. Who’s the best person to relate to a drug or alcohol addicted person? Of course, a person who’s had the same experience, so maybe Bristol could be a good spokesperson, except she clearly didn’t take to heart any of the lesson plan from her program, as she had yet another baby at the end of 2015. There’s a whole long conspiracy theory around when conception took place. While I was being dismissive of that, given the recent filing by Dakota Meyer of a child support suit, which will require a paternity test, I’m guessing there might be something to it.

Palin_TrackNow, along comes Track (yes, that is apparently his real name). Back around 2007, Track and some friends were caught for sabotaging a bunch of school buses, including cutting brake lines (you betcha). A judge gave them a choice of jail time or military service, so Track joined up…not out of a desire to serve, mind you, but a desire to keep his ass out of jail. He served for a year in a non-combat role. Now, I agree that a person who already allegedly suffers from some anger and addiction issues, will most likely see those enhanced with military service, and we owe anyone who serves, regardless of motivation, some deference.

Now he’s home, and decided that threatening suicide and sucker punching his girlfriend in the head was just a grand idea.

Here’s a link to the Wasilla Police Department Report.

On 01/18/2016 at approximately 2204 hours, Wasilla Police responded to a residence for a disturbance. An investigation revealed Track Palin had committed a domestic violence assault on a female, interfered with her ability to report a crime of domestic violence, and possessed a firearm while intoxicated. Palin was arrested and charges of assault in the fourth degree (domestic violence), interfering with a domestic violence report, and misconduct involving weapons in the fourth degree were forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office. Palin was held without bail until arraignment.

However, Mama Grizzly decided to pull Track and his issues front and center, and use them to attack the President. According to her, Track’s problems are all the current President’s fault, and none of this would ever happen under a Trump presidency.

“My son, like so many others, they come back a bit different, they come back hardened,” she said. “They come back wondering if there is that respect for what it is that their fellow soldiers and airman and every other member of the military so sacrificially have given to this country,” she added. “And that starts from the top.”

“That comes from our own president, where they have to look at him and wonder, ‘Do you know what we go through? Do you know what we’re trying to do to secure America?'”

So, if she creates the spectacle, she shouldn’t be surprised when others decide to watch and comment.

Just remember that John McCain thought it was a great idea to put this woman one heartbeat away from the Presidency, and she still has followers…people who believe she possess some kind of righteousness. That’s what scares me about America today. This is American politics today.
