Read moreYesterday, I had decided to clean out the closet here in the office. I’d let it get totally unorganized, and I had more unneeded crap in there than one can shake a stick at. Don’t ask me why, but I think I had the box from every cell phone I ever owned. As I finally got worked down to the bottom of the closet, on the floor in a back corner was a Target bag. As my good friend Chef Rick would say, “I said to myself; self, what could be in there?”

We just started a study of the Beatitudes, and of course the 9/11 commemoration services were all over the TV and radio this morning. Just before going into Church I heard President Obama at the Memorial in New York read Psalm 46. I try to make the prayer topical with current events and the lesson, so this is most of what I recall saying:

As everyone knows Bruce Ivins committed suicide earlier this week as a Grand Jury prepared to indict him in connection with the anthrax incident. Ivins had been a top anthrax researcher at a U.S. Government research facility for 18 years. So seven years after the incident, and after having to pay a settlement to one falsely accused researcher, we’re to believe the government had an airtight case against Ivins witnessed by his apparent suicide.

He was making a speech trying to stir up support for the FISA bill with telecom immunity, where he basically claimed that U.S. Intelligence apparently knew a call came from Afghanistan safe-house to a phone in the U.S.
