Good Guy With a Gun-Myth Debunked

There’s much I can say about the massacre in Orlando, and will write more about that after some reflection, but this one topic was too clear and obvious to require any reflection. It is time to end the NRA claim about how a “good-guy-with-a-gun” will rush in and save the day, if only there’s one around. This NRA meme needs to come off the table. It doesn’t work. If more guns and less gun control make us safer, this America should be the safest place on earth, and we all know it ain’t.

Senator David Perdue–Douche of the Day

Well, for more on God’s gentle loving people, we turn today to a religious conference held last week in Georgia. Republican Senator from Georgie, David Perdue, discussed praying in imprecatory prayer against the President. Since the Senator thinks that’s a good idea, we’re giving him our Douche of the Day award.

The Case for Biblical Interpretation

I spend too much time on Facebook following a conservative United Methodist page. I often post articles which I know will elicit strong responses, and I have to laugh at some of the mental gymnastics some of these people (many clergy) go through to justify their “Bible-believing” positions. A recent exchange serves as a good example of why we can’t take the Bible literal, and why discernment is critical when you try to use the Bible to support a position.

My Afternoon with The Benham Brothers

A relative finished up high school at Carmel Christian Academy this past weekend. I attended without knowing they had the Benham Brothers as the graduation speakers. I considered walking out, but my other sister was right to remind me it was my nephew’s day, not mine. So I decided to make the best of it, and see what they had to say.

Why Little Will Change At the UMC General Conference

As some of you may know, the United Methodist Church is holding their quadrennial General Conference in Portland, Oregon this week. As has been the case for the past several General Conference’s (GC), a major topic is the full inclusion of LGBT people (or as the conservatives call us, “the self-avowed practicing homosexuals”) in the life of the church. My prediction is that little will change in regard to those issues.

In A Mirror Dimly-Response to a Series by Bishop Michael Lowry-Part 4

This is a short conclusion to Bishop Lowry’s series. He claims, “signs of new life all around.” This is his clinging to the belief that it will be the orthodox church (his definition of orthodoxy) that survives and thrives, all evidence to the contrary.

New Presidential Poll at Deep

OK, the field has been narrowed. I suppose many will say it’s really down to Hillary v. Trump, but since I’m supporting Bernie, I’m going to leave him on the list for now (although I concede Secretary Clinton is the presumptive nominee). I also concede that Trump is the presumptive nominee for the Republicans . However, despite some signs the Republicans are resigning themselves to that reality, I’m just not totally convinced they are going to let this happen. I also know Paul Ryan said “no-way,” but the guy is still being talked about.
