About Deep Something
So, what is this little place on the web all about? Well, I work as an IT consultant doing mostly stuff in document and records management. Learning the most recent technologies is important to me, and blogging and PHP seemed to be one of those recent technologies. That said, this seemed to be a good way to learn about that.

John MastersI guess more important though is my personal need to rant, rave, complain and pontificate about subjects that garner my interest. So, the combination of blogging technologies, and my desire to learn seemed like a good way to put together Deep Something.

So what does “Deep Something” mean. Well, I leave that to you. It could mean deep thoughts, deeply held beliefs, or deep bullshit. Take your pick. I’m sure there’s some of all that here. I know what interests me, and I like to think I have well thought out opinions based more on fact than on blind ignorance. But I know I’m hardly perfect. So far, this site hasn’t garnered a lot of discussion, but I keep hoping. I can be persuaded to change my mind, and wish more of you would try.

About Me
So, who am I? Well, I’m John Masters. I’m an mid-40s kind of early 50’s professional guy. As noted above, I’m an IT consultant. I work for a Virginia-based firm, but they are kind enough to allow me to live in Tampa, FL. This is my second time living in Tampa. I fell in love with the place the first time I came here for a job (boy, there’s a story I’ll tell someday). I had to move from here to Dayton, OH for another job, but spent most of that four years trying to figure out a way to get back. I finally made it back to Tampa in 2000.

I’m Gay, consider myself progressive and somewhat liberal on social issues, and a bit more conservative on financial things. I’m also Methodist from birth, but am probably more Christian than religious. (That’s probably a long blog entry someday too.) I am involved in my local church, Palma Ceia United Methodist.

I grew up in a small town in North Carolina called Kings Mountain, surrounded by a wonderful extended family. While my grandparents are now all dead, I remain close to my Mother and two sisters. They all still live in North Carolina.

I got my degree is Business Administration from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, and boy do I love the mountains. Seems funny coming from someone who also loves Tampa I guess, for there are certainly no mountains here. But, I love Tampa for reasons that have little to do with the topology or the climate. I do however take pleasure in describing the weather down here during the winter when talking to people at our corporate headquarters in Virginia.

I could go on and on, but I suspect more of my history will come out in other places, and as it does, I’ll link to that from here.
