The Weather in Tampa Today 09-10-2018
Right this minute, at 5:15 PM we’re getting a pretty good downpour that started about 10 minutes ago. According to the weather radar, it is part of a very thin band that seems to be part of Michael. It’s been overcast all day, and the wind has been gusty from time to time, but nothing bad at all.
I was at the barbershop this morning, and one of the guys in there mentioned that Bayshore Blvd. had been closed some, but the northern end of Bayshore floods if someone waters their grass. We are experiencing a period of “king tides” which mean the normal high tides are about a foot higher than normal. With some surge from the storm, they were reporting some high tides 2 to 3 feet above normal, so that could wash over one part of Bayshore.
When I got up about 5:00 this morning the digital clock in the bathroom was flashing, indicating the electricity had flicked off sometime during the night, but I wasn’t aware. I don’t recall hearing any gusty winds or heavy rain, so I don’t think there was much going on.
With all that said, we’ll chalk this one up to luck for us. Please remember that some folks aren’t so lucky, and it is going to be a rough time up in the Big Bend and Panhandle areas of Florida. Michael could not have been more perfecting aimed to really push in a storm surge at Big Bend. Also, the current track has it sliding across North Carolina just west of the coastal area around the North Carolina-South Carolina border. That means the wettest side of the storm will be passing over the area already inundated. So please keep those folk in your thoughts, and do whatever you can to lend a hand.
