Projection Much

Friend of David Duke and the KKK, Tony Perkins, head of the SPLC designated hate group, The Family Research Council (FRC) has released maybe one of the most stupid press releases I’ve ever seen. The real kicker comes near end of his rant. “And liberals wonder why women are turned off! After an entire campaign built on ‘lady parts,’ more women are waking up to the contempt Democrats have for them.” This is the classic Karl Rove tactic. Accuse the other side of exactly what you are guilty of doing. In fact, I think the Republican Party is focus group testing replacing the word “rapist” with “givers of gifts from God.”

One Big Step

OK, this is one of those WOW! kind of things. Austrian Felix Baumgartner used a ballon to climb to over 128,000 feet, stepped out of a capsule, and jumped. Because he was in the very thin air of the stratosphere, during his 4 minute free fall, he reached a speed of 834.4 miles per hour (that’s Mach 1.24)…faster than the speed of sound. This on the same day 65 years ago when Chuck Yeagar became the first human to go faster than the speed of sound. Yeager used a rocket plane. Yeager was able to do it this year using just a space suit.

Sometimes There’s Hope

I am constantly reading and hearing the anti-gay Christianists (the Krazy Kristian Kooks as I like to call them) talking about how the world will end if gay people are given equal rights, and their rights to bully are taken away. Just in the past couple of days, on Janet Medferds talk show she hosted professional gay hater and homophobe (and truly most likely a big queen himself) Peter LaBarbera. After crapping on the TV show “The New Normal” to fill air time, they go off on homosexuals in general with the following exchange:

The Canon As You’ve Never Heard It Before

I suppose of all the classical music out there, perhaps my favorite is the Pachelbel Canon in D. It’s beautiful melody has soothed me many times, and it seems there’s almost no treatment of music that doesn’t turn out beautiful. Guitar, organ, symphony orchestra, hammered dulcimer…it doesn’t seem to matter, it almost always sounds amazing.

Ah For the Good Old Days of Julia Sugarbaker

I know some of you will remember the show “Designing Women,” and especially the rants of one of the lead characters, Julia Sugarbaker. Someone has taken the time to hitch together a segment of Michele Bachman and one of Julia’s rants, and the results are pretty good. Boy how would love for someone like Julia Sugarbaker to actually call out some of these Republican candidates, especially Bachman. So, it’s as true today as it was back when the program was new, so enjoy this clip….

And The Hits Just Keep Coming

I had occasion to hear the Columbus Gay Men’s Chorus several times when I lived in Dayton. In fact, it seemed their Christmas Concert and that of the Cincinnati Gay Men’s Chorus were often the same weekend, so I’d do Cincinnati Saturday evening, and then go to Columbus for their Sunday afternoon concert. Both were excellent choruses, and they both had very different styles, so it was a great fun. Here the Columbus Chorus provides a youtube for the “It Gets Better Project” with the Columbus Youth Choir. I’ll just let the music speak for itself.
